I am not sure how long I am going to be able to keep it up, but I decided that, at least for Week 1, I would provide summaries of all of the games that took place in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball Association (ACBA).

If you are not familiar with the league, it includes University and College teams from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. It is a six team league that includes Acadia University (Wolfville, NS), Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS), Holland College (Charlottetown, PE), St. Francis Xavier University (Antigonish, NS), St. Mary’s University (Halifax, NS), and the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton, NB).

With COVID-19 cancelling the Spring 2021 season for the CCBC in Western Canada, and the seasons for Ontario’s OCAA and OUA baseball not starting until next weekend, Canadian University / College baseball got started this past weekend in Quebec and Atlantic Canada. The Atlantic Collegiate Baseball Association (ABCA) had a full slate of games in Week 1, and as is typical, they were all weekend Double Headers. Despite all of the rain in most of the Maritimes this weekend, it looks like they were able to get in all of the scheduled games.

Finally, the ACBA standings after Week 1 are shown to the right. The University of New Brunswick Reds lead the pack so far after going undefeated in their first 4 games. The Holland College Hurricanes are right on their heels with a 3 and 1 record this past weekend.

Dalhousie Tigers @ Saint Mary’s Huskies

In game 1, Dal beat SMU by a score of 8 to 4. The Dal offense was ready to go with 11 hits as a group. For Dal, Mark Howett and Ben Rittenburg had two Hits and two RBI’s each while Dylan Corsini went 3 for 4 and had an RBI of his own. Nick Manias went 7 complete for the Win, giving up 1 Earned Run and 7 Hits while Walking 8, Striking Out 10, and throwing a total of 146 pitches. Dal committed 3 Errors in the game. For SMU, Carsten Marks and Larry Barton led the way for SMU with two Hits and Two RBI’s each. Spencer Murray took the loss, giving up 9 Hits and 6 Earned Runs over 5 1/3 innings, while Walking 1, Striking Out 8, and throwing a total of 106 pitches. SMU committed 1 Error in the game.

In game 2, SMU came back defeat Dal by a score of 4 to 3 in 8 innings. Top hitters for SMU were leadoff man Kyle Sampson (3 for 3) and Larry Barton (2 for 3) while Spencer Murray had two RBI’s and Logan Raftus ended the game with a walk-off single. Cameron Hughes went 8 complete for the Win, giving up 3 Hits and 2 Earned Runs while Walking 5, Striking Out 4, and throwing a total of 103 pitches. Dal had 1 error in the game. Hughes held Dal to 3 hits with one each from Ben Rittenberg, Jarrett Ross, and Evan Dunbrille. Garrett Windsor took the Loss, giving up 2 Earned Runs over 7 1/3 innings, while Walking 3, Striking Out 6, and throwing a total of 105 pitches. SMU had 1 error in the game.

St. Francis Xavier X-Men @ University of New Brunswick Reds

In game 1, UNB shut out STFX by a score of 7 to 0. The Reds offensive attack was led by Nick St. Pierre (3 for 3) and Rylan Matchett (2 for 2 with a Walk), who both had an RBI. Starter Ryan Nason took the Win with 2 Hits and 0 Earned Runs over 4 2/3 innings, while Walking 3, Striking Out 8, and and throwing a total of 76 pitches. UNB did not commit an Error in this game. For STFX, Jack Walsh led the offensive attack with a Double. Brett Baxter took the Loss giving up 9 hits and 3 Earned Runs over 4 innings, while Walking 1, Striking Out 2, and throwing a total of 76 pitches. STFX committed 3 Errors in the game.

In game 2, UNB beat STFX by a score of 8 to 3. For UNB Justin Ferguson, Luke Smith, and Matthew Dingnam led the way with a Hit and 2 RBI’s each. Rylan Matchett went 4 complete for the Win, giving up 3 Hits and 1 Earned Run, while Walking 0, Striking Out 5, and throwing a total of 46 pitches. UNB had 1 Error in the game. For STFX Ellie McAulay went 2 for 2 while Evan Whyte and Kyle Moore had a Hit and an RBI each. Ty Arsenault took the Loss, giving up 5 Hits and 8 Earned Runs over 2 1/3 Innings, while Walking 8, Striking Out 2, and throwing a total of 68 pitches. STFX had no Errors in the game.

Acadia Axemen @ Holland College Hurricanes

In game 1, Acadia shut out Holland College by a score of 3 to 0. Acadia got a Hit each from Doug Hassell Pat McWilliam, Jake MacKinnon and Scott Long. Matt Bradley went 7 complete, giving up 4 Hits and 0 Earned Runs while Striking Out 8, Walking 0, and throwing only 78 pitches. Acadia committed 2 Errors in the game. Holland College got a Hit each from Dylan Worth, Ben MacDougall, Drew Grady, and Peter MacKay. Ronny De La Cruz threw 6 innings, giving up 3 Hits and 2 Earned Runs, while Walking 3, Striking Out 8, and throwing 94 pitches. Holland College had 1 Error in the game.

In game 2, Holland College came back to best Acadia 7 to 1. The Holland College attack was led by Brayden Lebel who went 2 for 2 with a Walk and 3 Runs Scored. Dylan Worth chipped in with a Hit, 2 RBI’s, and a Run Scored. Jack MacKenzie took the Win with 7 complete innings, spreading out 6 Hits and giving up 1 Earned Run, while Walking 0, Striking Out 9, and throwing 96 pitches. Holland College had 1 Error in the game. Jake MacKinnon led the way at the plate for Acadia, going 2 for 3 with a Double. Starter Cole Stevens took the loss giving up 6 Hits and 3 Earned Runs, while Walking 2, Striking Out 2, and throwing 53 pitches. Acadia committed 2 Errors in the game.

St. Francis Xavier X-Men @ Acadia Axemen

The Sunday Double Header between the X-Men and Axemen (yeah you read that right) was quite a barnburner with a total of 51 runs scored.

In game 1, Acadia doubled-up STFX by a score of 20 to 10. As you can imagine Acadia had hits and RBI’s from almost everyone in their lineup but Jacobie Ford and Pat McWilliam led the way with 3 hits each. Starter Keegan Gaskell returned to the mound after a long hiatus to earn the Win despite giving up 6 hits and 8 Earned Runs over 5 innings while Striking Out 3, Walking 3, and throwing 86 pitches. Acadia committed 1 Error behind Gaskell. The STFX attack was led by Ewan Galloway (1 for 4 with a Home Run and 4 RBI’s) and Lucas Fraser (2 for 2 with 2 Walks and 3 Runs Scored). Jonathan Tremblay came on in relief of started Ellie MacAulay and took the loss. Tremblay threw 2 1/3 innings, giving up 4 Hits and 7 Runs (only 3 of them Earned), while Walking 4, Striking Out 2, and throwing 66 pitches. STFX had 3 Errors in the game.

Game 2 was another high scoring affair with STFX coming back to top Acadia by a score of 13 to 8. The STFX offense was led by Jack Walsh (3 for 4 with 2 Doubles, a Walk, 5 RBI’s, and a Run Scored), Ty Arsenault (3 for 5 with an RBI and 2 Runs Scored), and Doug Hassell (2 for 5 with 3 Runs Scored). Dominick Tremblay took the Win, giving up 8 Hits and 4 Earned Runs, while Walking 3, Striking Out 4, and throwing 80 pitches over 5 innings. STFX had 4 Errors in the game. The Acadia attack was led by G Cullerton (2 for 4 with a Triple, a Walk, 3 RBI’s, and 3 Runs Scored), Pat McWilliam (3 for 4 with an RBI), and Luke Sampson (3 for 5 with a Run Scored). Starter Jacobie Ford took the Loss giving up 9 Hits and 9 Runs (6 Earned), while Walking 5, Striking Out 3, and throwing 90 pitches over 4 1/3 Innings. Acadia committed 3 Errors in the game.

Holland College Hurricanes @ Dalhousie Tigers

In game 1, Holland College defeated Dalhousie by a score of 11 to 4. The Holland College attack was led by Brayden Label (4 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and 2 Runs Scored), Ben McDougall (3 for 5 with a Triple, a Double, 3 RBI’s, and 2 Runs Scored), Ethan McLellan (3 for 5 with an RBI), Dylan Worth (2 for 4 with a Home Run, 2 RBI’s, and 2 Runs Scored), and Jack MacKenzie (2 for 4 with a Walk, an RBI, and 2 Runs Scored). Starter Cody LeBlanc took the Win, giving up 7 hits and 2 Earned Runs over 4 innings while Striking Out 5, Walking 2, and throwing 90 pitches. The Dal attack was led by Aiden Rittenberg (2 for 3 with a Triple, two Walks, and a Run Scored), Zach Bond (2 for 3 with a Run Scored), and Hunter Valcourt (2 for 4 with a Run Scored). Starter Evan Dunbrille took the Loss, giving up 10 Hits and 6 Earned Runs, while Walking 1, Striking Out 2, and throwing 64 pitches over 4 innings. There were no errors by either team in this game.

Game 2 was a bit of a blowout with Holland College shutting out Dalhousie in 5 innings by a score of 13 to 0. The Holland College offense was led by Dylan Worth (2 for 3 with a Walk, an RBI, and 2 Runs Scored), Ben MacDougall (1 for 1 with 2 Walks, an RBI and 3 Runs Scored), and Garret Herbert (1 for 3 with 4 RBI’s). Starter Ethan McLellan took the Win, giving up only 1 Hit and 0 Earned Runs, while Walking 0, Striking Out 4, and throwing 40 pitches over 3 innings. Holland College had 1 Error in the game. The Tigers managed only two hits, one each from Dylan Corsini and Brett Parker. Starter Mark Howatt took the Loss giving up 6 Hits and 7 Earned Runs, while Walking 1, Striking Out 1, and throwing 48 pitches over only 1 Inning Pitched. Dalhousie committed 2 Errors in the game.

In game 1, UNB defeated SMU by a score of 12 to 5. The UNB attack was led by Nick Rushton (2 for 2 with a Home Run, a Walk, 4 RBI’s and 2 Runs Scored), Nick St. Pierre (2 for 4 with a Walk, 2 RBI’s, and 1 Run Scored), and Matthew Dingham (2 for 4 with 2 Runs Scored). Reliever Sam Beaulieu took the Win, giving up 0 hits and 0 Earned Runs over 4 innings while Striking Out 3, Walking 0, and throwing 56 pitches. UNB commited 1 Error in the game. The SMU attack was led by Justin Hubley (1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s), Spencer Murray (1 for 3 with an RBI and a Run Scored), and Oscar Kozoriz (1 for 3 with an RBI and a Run Scored). Starter Brock Townsend took the Loss, giving up 4 Hits and 7 Earned Runs, while Walking 7, Striking Out 2, and throwing 75 pitches over 2 1/3 innings. SMU did not commit any Errors in the game.

Game 2 was a high scoring affair with UNB coming out on top over SMU by a score of 13 to 9. The Holland College offense was led by Owen Lohnes who was 2 for 4 with a Grand Slam Home Run, 5 RBI’s and 1 Run Scored, Sam Beaulieu (2 for 2 with 3 RBI’s and 2 Runs Scored), and Nick St. Pierre (3 for 4 with an RBI and 2 Runs Scored). Reliever Aaron Dunn took the Win, giving up 3 Hits and 2 Earned Runs, while Walking 1, Striking Out 1, and throwing 25 pitches over 1 inning. The SMU offense was led by Logan Raftus (2 for 2 with 2 Walks, and 2 Runs Scored), Oscar Kozoriz (2 for 4 with 2 Runs Scored), and Spencer Murray (1 for 4 with a Double and 4 RBI’s).
