Baseball BC Announces Canada Cup Team

Baseball BC LogoOn July 22, 2019, Baseball BC announced their roster that will compete at the 2019 Baseball Canada Cup (17U Nationals) in Regina, Saskatchewan from August 7th to the 11th.

For those of you unfamiliar with high school level baseball in British Columbia, it is dominated by the British Columbia Premier Baseball League (BCPBL). Most, but certainly not all, of the top high school players in BC play in the BCPBL. The league consists of 13 organizations that field teams in the Bantam PBL (15U), Junior PBL (16U), and the Senior PBL (18U).

The BCPBL has a pretty storied history. Originally established as the Island Premier Baseball League with teams only on Vancouver Island, the league expanded in 1999 and 2000, taking on teams in BC’s Lower Mainland and re-branding accordingly to the BCPBL. The league has helped develop several players who eventually went on to play in Major League Baseball including the following:

Ryan Dempster North Shore Twins 1998 2013
Jeff Francis North Delta Blue Jays 2004 2015
Taylor Green Parksville Royals 2011 2012
Rich Harden Victoria Mariners 2003 2011
Brett Lawrie Langley Blaze 2011 2016
Adam Loewen Whalley Chiefs 2006 2016
